When a file is deleted, the space it used is marked as free, but the data often stays there until something new is written over it. The less the drive is used after the deletion, the more we can bring back.
Stop using the drive now
- Don’t install recovery software on the same drive
- Don’t save new files, browse the web or update the computer
- Switch off and bring in the computer, drive, card or phone backup drive
What we recover
- Files deleted from the Recycle Bin or Trash
- Formatted or repartitioned drives
- Photos and videos from memory cards and cameras
- Overwritten folders and lost partitions
- Files lost after a Windows or macOS reinstall
SSDs and TRIM
Most SSDs erase deleted data in the background within minutes (TRIM), so recovery from SSDs is far less likely than from hard drives and memory cards. It is still worth checking straight away.
How it works
We assess the drive, tell you what’s wrong and what recovery will cost, and only go ahead when you agree. We work on a copy of the drive wherever possible, so your original isn’t put at further risk.
Questions we get asked
Can you recover files deleted months ago?
Sometimes. It depends on how much the drive has been used since. We check before you pay for recovery.
