Laptop Fan and Overheating Repair

Illustration of a laptop with an overheating fan

A laptop that runs hot, roars, slows down under load or switches itself off is usually clogged with dust or has a worn fan. Left alone, the heat shortens the life of the battery and the motherboard. We strip the laptop down, clean the cooling system properly and replace whatever has worn out.

Signs your laptop needs a clean-out

  • Fan running loudly all the time, or grinding and rattling
  • Laptop shutting down or freezing during games, video calls or rendering
  • Hot spots on the base or keyboard
  • Performance dropping after a few minutes of use
  • “Fan error” or “CPU fan” warnings at start-up

What we do

  • Strip down and clean the fan, heatsink and vents
  • Replace worn or noisy fans
  • Replace dried-out thermal paste and thermal pads
  • Check temperatures under load before and after
  • Gaming laptops: clean both CPU and GPU cooling, and liquid metal where fitted

We diagnose the fault on the bench and agree the price with you before any work starts. Many repairs are finished the same day when parts are in stock, and all come with a 3-month warranty.

Questions we get asked

How often should a laptop be cleaned inside?

Every two to three years for most laptops, and every year for gaming laptops or laptops used in dusty places or around pets.

Can I just blow air into the vents?

It helps a little, but most of the dust collects on the inside face of the heatsink, which only comes off when the laptop is opened.
